The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning, predicting significant disruptions from 9:00 PM GMT on Saturday until 11:59 PM GMT on Sunday.
Merseyside, home to Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium, is expected to see heavy snow and freezing temperatures, raising concerns about the safety of fans traveling to the match.
While the pitch at Anfield could be suitable for play, the primary focus is on ensuring the safety of attendees. A meeting of the Safety Advisory Group, involving representatives from both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council, is likely to take place today to evaluate the situation and decide on the match’s status.
The Met Office has warned of ongoing snow, potential freezing rain, and dangerous travel conditions, with snow accumulation expected to range from 3-7 cm in most areas and up to 15-30 cm on higher ground. A rapid thaw of snow and ice is also expected in southern regions by Sunday.
