MotoGP News: Jorge Martin’s move to Aprilia in 2025 means he will leave MotoGP’s best bike. However, he has not thought about racing next season.
The Ducati GP24 – the machine of two riders from the factory team and Pramac – has proven to be a step ahead of even the year-old version ridden by Marc Marquez. However Jorge Martin will join Aprilia next year which means big changes for the manufacturer. He was asked about his true feelings about leaving MotoGP’s best bike to someone else.
“Or not. We don’t know that. In the end we don’t know this and I want to think about this year and take it race by race.”
“After (Barcelona) I will think about next year. I didn’t know what I would find. I don’t know if it will be very good or very bad, so I will think about it when I have to think about it.”
Martin was asked if he had ever reconsidered his decision to quit Ducati. “No. Never. Absolutely not. I haven’t reconsidered it and won’t reconsider it.”
“At the end of the day, there are situations in life where you have to make decisions and this is one of them. I have been chasing my dream and I hope to make it come true.”
Ducati initially looked ready to reward Pramac’s Martin with their factory vehicle for 2025, but reversed course and chose Marquez instead. Martin – who failed to get his hands on the coveted red bike for the third time – immediately signed a deal to become a factory Aprilia rider next year.
He was asked if his quick choice was because of his resentment towards Ducati’s rejection. “I don’t need to say anything. Everyone thinks what they want. I am very calm about my decision.”
Martin could still take the number 1 plate to rival Italian manufacturer Ducati. He will replace his good friend Aleix Espargaro at Aprilia. The MotoGP landscape will be very different in 2025 when Pecco Bagnaia and Marquez form a formidable – but potentially unstable – factory Ducati line-up. Ducati will have six riders, down from eight. And three factory motorbikes, down from four.
