Aurelien Tchouameni has previously expressed his appreciation for Liverpool, even as reports suggest that the Reds have made a bid to sign the Real Madrid midfielder in January. Liverpool made only two permanent signings during the summer, one of which, Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, is on loan at Valencia for the entire season.
The other signing, Italian winger Federico Chiesa, had an impressive debut against West Ham in September but has since been sidelined by a muscle injury, featuring in just one match since then.
Liverpool had been looking to strengthen their midfield with a defensive option, but those plans were dropped after Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi opted against a move to Anfield. Instead, manager Arne Slot shifted Ryan Gravenberch into the role, and the Dutchman has delivered strong performances in the position.
With the January transfer window now open, reports claim that Liverpool have made a £41 million bid for Tchouameni to provide competition in midfield.
This interest in Tchouameni isn’t new. He was close to joining Liverpool from Monaco in 2022 but ultimately chose to move to Real Madrid for a fee that could rise to €100 million with add-ons.
Despite his previous decision, his past comments suggest that his feelings toward Liverpool may have changed. Speaking to CNN, Tchouameni said, “I like both [Real Madrid and Liverpool].
I can watch Spanish games and English games. It’s different to play in Spain and different to play in England. But in the end, for me, it’s all about adaptation. I’m an ambitious person. Every time I do something, I just want to win.”
