Liverpool fans are growing increasingly concerned after Arne Slot’s recent comments about Federico Chiesa. Since his summer move from Juventus, Chiesa has played in only five matches, including Saturday’s FA Cup game against Accrington Stanley.
Chiesa, who joined the Reds with high expectations, has made just four appearances, with his first start coming in a Carabao Cup tie against West Ham.
Unfortunately, he picked up a muscle injury after that match and has been sidelined for the past three months. His latest appearance was last month, when he played 45 minutes in a Carabao Cup match against Southampton. He has also been on the bench for three of Liverpool’s last four games.
In the FA Cup match against Accrington Stanley, Chiesa was again named as a substitute, extending his run of bench appearances to four out of five matches.
Despite fans hoping to see him start to build his match fitness, Slot opted to start 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha on the left wing instead. Chiesa did make an impact after coming on in the second half, scoring in Liverpool’s 4-0 victory. However, Slot’s comments before the match have raised concerns about Chiesa’s future at the club.
Slot stated, “It’s not just about Federico in terms of playing time; it’s about others as well. We’ll see in the coming weeks and months if he’s able to help us, as things are going to get even more intense.” This has led many fans to question whether Chiesa will play a key role moving forward.
Speculation has increased that Chiesa could leave Liverpool as early as January. Yet, following his strong performance against Accrington, fans are urging the manager to give him more playing time, hoping he can contribute more to the team.
