Arsenal Nearing Deal for Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon
Arsenal is edging closer to signing Viktor Gyokeres, after rethinking their position on his €100m release clause at Sporting Lisbon. The Swedish international striker has long been a target for the Gunners, as well as several other top European clubs.
Ruben Amorim, who managed Gyokeres at Sporting, is trying to persuade the 26-year-old to choose Manchester United instead. However, according to recent reports from L’Équipe, Arsenal has now agreed to pay the €100m release clause, which could put them in pole position to secure the former Coventry City forward, especially as no other club has shown an eagerness to meet that price.
Arsenal would still need to finalize personal terms with Gyokeres, who is reportedly keen on joining one of Europe’s elite teams. The club’s need for a new striker has intensified after Gabriel Jesus suffered a serious knee injury, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
Before this injury setback, Arsenal had already been urged to recruit a top-class striker to bolster their Premier League title ambitions.
Gyokeres Offers a Cheaper Alternative to Isak
Although Newcastle’s Alexander Isak was initially Arsenal’s primary target, reports suggest that the Magpies are seeking a minimum of £150m to start negotiations, making him an expensive option. In contrast, Gyokeres would be a more affordable alternative, with Arsenal potentially activating his €100m (£84m) release clause in January.
Gyokeres has been in excellent form this season for Sporting Lisbon, netting 32 goals and providing 6 assists across 30 appearances in all competitions.

When asked about his future, Gyokeres told Marca last month: “There are a lot of rumors, but we’re in the middle of the season, and many months remain. We’ll see what happens when the time comes.”
Regarding his career aspirations, he added: “At 30, I hope to be playing for one of the best teams in Europe. That’s my goal.”
