Chelsea has made an unexpected inquiry into the availability of Manchester United’s young winger, Alejandro Garnacho. The 20-year-old’s future at Old Trafford is now in doubt, as the club grapples with financial challenges that could force them to sell some key players.
Garnacho’s performances this season have been inconsistent. He was dropped for the December Manchester derby after seemingly falling out of favor with United manager Rúben Amorim.
However, he has recently worked hard to earn a place in the starting lineup, impressing with his displays in United’s wins over Southampton and Arsenal.
Having joined Manchester United’s academy from Atlético Madrid, Garnacho has made 117 appearances for the club, netting 23 goals. This season alone, he has scored eight goals in 31 appearances, showcasing his importance to the team.
Despite his contributions, Manchester United might be forced to sell him to address their financial situation. Reports suggest United rejected a £40 million bid from Napoli for Garnacho, but several other European clubs, including Chelsea, are reportedly monitoring him.
Chelsea is reportedly in early discussions to bring Garnacho to Stamford Bridge as they look to bolster their attacking options. Given United’s need to sell, Garnacho could be among the players they move on.
United manager Amorim recently spoke about Garnacho’s development, praising his improved work rate and defensive contributions, although he noted that it sometimes affects his ability to attack as quickly as before.
In addition to Garnacho, Chelsea is also considering Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, another 20-year-old winger who has been in strong form this season, scoring seven goals in 18 appearances. Gittens, who joined Dortmund in 2020, has made 83 appearances and scored 16 goals, attracting interest from major clubs like Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s forward Christopher Nkunku is reportedly attracting attention from PSG, although manager Enzo Maresca has stated that the player is not for sale. Nkunku, who arrived at Chelsea in 2023, has scored 15 goals in 41 appearances, mainly coming off the bench.
Chelsea is keen to capitalize on Garnacho’s uncertain position at Manchester United. If United decides to sell, it could be one of the biggest transfers of the window. Regardless of his next move, Garnacho’s talent and potential suggest a bright future ahead.
