🔴👑 Van Dijk Leads the New Era! Liverpool Unveil Powerful Leadership Group for 2026/27

Liverpool have officially revealed a refreshed leadership structure ahead of the new season, and Virgil van Dijk remains the man wearing the crown at Anfield. 👑🔴

The Dutch centre-back will continue as Liverpool captain, maintaining his position as one of the most influential figures inside the squad. With the Reds entering a new chapter under Andoni Iraola, keeping Van Dijk at the heart of the leadership group provides experience and stability during a period of significant change. 💪🏽🔥

Joining Van Dijk in the leadership group will be Alisson Becker, Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai, who have all been appointed as vice-captains. The decision gives Liverpool a fascinating mixture of experience, longevity and emerging leadership.

🧤 ALISSON: THE LEADER WITHOUT THE ARMBAND

Alisson’s appointment is particularly interesting. The Brazilian goalkeeper is one of Liverpool’s most senior and respected players, having been at the club since 2018 and playing a major role in the Reds’ biggest successes.

But there is a twist. 👀

Despite being part of the leadership hierarchy, Alisson is unlikely to actually wear the captain’s armband during matches. Iraola explained that Premier League captaincy regulations, which place importance on the captain being able to communicate directly with the referee, make the goalkeeper’s role as an on-field captain difficult.

So while Alisson may not regularly wear the armband, his influence in the dressing room remains enormous. 🧤❤️

🛡️ JOE GOMEZ: EXPERIENCE AND LOYALTY

Joe Gomez also gets a major leadership responsibility. The defender has been part of Liverpool’s senior setup for years and brings valuable knowledge of the club, its culture and the demands of playing at Anfield.

His promotion could become especially important as Liverpool rebuild their defensive unit and integrate new faces into the squad.

⚡ SZOBOSZLAI: THE FUTURE LEADER?

Then there’s Dominik Szoboszlai. 🇭🇺🔥

The Hungarian midfielder’s elevation feels like one of the biggest statements of the new leadership structure. Szoboszlai has already established himself as an important figure at Liverpool and is also the captain of Hungary.

He recently committed his long-term future to Liverpool, signing a new contract that keeps him at the club until 2031, making his inclusion in the leadership group look like a major investment in the future.

With Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson no longer part of the leadership picture, Liverpool needed new personalities to step forward. Van Dijk remains the established leader, while Alisson, Gomez and Szoboszlai now have the responsibility of helping guide the next generation. 🔴👊

And that could make this leadership group one of the most important pieces of Iraola’s first season at Anfield.

One captain. Three deputies. A new era. 👑🔴🔥

Liverpool’s leadership has changed, but the message is crystal clear: the Reds are building a team where leadership won’t belong to just one player.
