From one Barcelona attacking full-back icon to another! 🫂🔴🔵 João Cancelo has linked up with Dani Alves, creating a picture that has sent Barça fans straight into nostalgia mode! 😍📸
There is something special about seeing Cancelo alongside Alves because the Portuguese star has never hidden his admiration for the Brazilian legend. In fact, Cancelo previously described Alves as his childhood idol and praised the freedom, joy and attacking mentality he brought to the game. 👑🇧🇷🇵🇹
Now, years later, the two have finally shared that Barça connection away from the pitch. And honestly, the picture feels like a meeting between Barça’s past and present! 🔥
Cancelo is entering a brand-new chapter at Barcelona after the club officially brought him back on a permanent deal until June 2029. This is his third spell in Catalonia following two loan periods, making his return even more special. 🔵🔴
The Portuguese full-back has already left his mark during his previous Barça adventures. Across his two loan spells, Cancelo made 65 appearances, scoring six goals and providing eight assists, while showing his versatility by operating on both sides of the defence. ⚡️🔥
And there is another fascinating layer to this story. Dani Alves represents one of the greatest attacking full-backs in Barcelona history, while Cancelo has built his reputation around many of the same qualities: technical ability, creativity, attacking movement and the confidence to influence games from wide areas. 🎯⚡️
Cancelo’s return is also a major statement from Hansi Flick. Barcelona wanted a versatile defender capable of contributing in different roles, and Cancelo’s experience gives the manager another attacking weapon as Barça chase more silverware. 🏆🔥
The Portuguese star has already spoken about his deep connection with the club, and his decision to return permanently shows just how much Barcelona means to him. ❤️🔵🔴
Dani Alves inspired Cancelo as a youngster.
Now Cancelo is writing his own story in the famous Blaugrana colours.
The idol. The admirer. The Barça shirt. The full-back legacy. 🫂👑🔴🔵
Football really does have a beautiful way of bringing stories full circle. 😍🔥
