Hector Bellerin produced a performance to remember as Real Betis stunned Real Madrid 1-0, with the former Barcelona defender playing a huge role in keeping Vinicius Junior under control.
Vinicius struggled to find his usual rhythm throughout the match, reportedly losing possession 23 times as Bellerin repeatedly disrupted his attempts to attack down the flank.
The Betis defender finished with 11 defensive contributions, won 8 duels, completed 6 tackles and made 5 recoveries. His constant pressure prevented Vinicius from enjoying the freedom and space he normally uses to terrorise defenders.
Instead of allowing the Brazilian to dictate the game, Bellerin stood his ground and consistently challenged him, helping Betis neutralise one of Real Madrid’s most dangerous attacking outlets.
Marc Bartra was also instrumental in protecting the advantage. The experienced centre-back remained composed during the closing stages and helped Betis withstand Madrid’s attempts to find an equaliser.
In the end, Betis held on for a huge 1-0 victory, while Madrid left the Benito Villamarin without a point.
For Vinicius, it was a frustrating evening.
For Bellerin and Bartra, it was a defensive masterclass that delivered three precious points and handed Real Madrid an early setback in the title race.
