Rasmus Hojlund continues to show signs of finding his feet in Italy, but his latest goal was overshadowed by one of the most dramatic comebacks of the Serie A season.
The former Manchester United striker was on target for Napoli against Inter Milan on Saturday, scoring his second Serie A goal of the campaign and putting his side in a commanding position at San Siro. ⚽🔥
Napoli entered the second half with the game still goalless, but the match suddenly exploded after the break.
Matteo Politano opened the scoring in the 50th minute before Hojlund doubled Napoli’s advantage just three minutes later. The Danish forward showed excellent composure to finish into the corner, giving Napoli a 2-0 lead and leaving Inter facing a serious problem.
For Hojlund, it was another encouraging moment after scoring against Como in his previous Serie A appearance. His latest strike means he has now found the net twice in the league this season, a promising start as he looks to establish himself as Napoli’s attacking focal point.
But Inter simply refused to collapse.
Lautaro Martinez immediately pulled one back in the 56th minute, giving the home side renewed belief. The pressure continued to build, and Marcus Thuram eventually levelled the contest with a powerful header in the 82nd minute.
Then came the heartbreak for Napoli.
With the match heading into stoppage time, Lautaro struck again in the 91st minute to complete Inter’s stunning comeback from two goals down. Napoli had gone from being in total control to walking away empty-handed.
For Hojlund, it was a frustrating evening despite another positive individual performance.
He scored.
He gave Napoli a two-goal cushion.
But he still left San Siro without the victory.
The result also maintained Inter’s perfect start to the Serie A campaign, with Cristian Chivu’s side winning all three of their opening league matches. Napoli, meanwhile, were left with just three points after three games.
There is, however, plenty for Hojlund to take from the night.
Two league goals in his opening matches provide an encouraging foundation, and Napoli will be hoping the Danish striker can continue improving as he adapts to his new surroundings.
The goals are beginning to arrive.
Now Napoli need the victories to follow. 🔴🔵
