Why did Barcelona reportedly favour Anthony Gordon over Marcus Rashford? 🤔💥
For months, the idea of Rashford wearing the famous Barça shirt looked like a dream waiting to happen. The English forward had the profile, the experience and the star power — and his name was heavily linked with a move to Catalonia. 🏴⚽
But Barcelona’s thinking appears to have gone deeper than simply asking “Who is the bigger name?” 👀
According to Deco’s comments, Barça’s recruitment was heavily influenced by what the team actually needed on the pitch — and that is where the Gordon vs Rashford debate becomes fascinating. 🥶
Hansi Flick wants an attack built around intensity, aggressive pressing, explosive transitions and relentless running. And Gordon’s profile fits that philosophy extremely well. ⚡🔥
The Newcastle winger offers tremendous pace, direct running, defensive work and the ability to stretch the opposition from wide areas. He can attack space, press defenders and immediately turn a recovery into a dangerous counterattack. 💨💨
Rashford, meanwhile, brings a different package. His experience at the highest level, finishing ability and individual quality are undeniable. But Barça seemingly had to consider how each player would fit into Flick’s tactical structure, especially with Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and other attacking options already competing for major roles. 👑
And that could explain why the decision was never simply about transfer fees, wages or market value.
Barcelona were reportedly looking at the bigger picture:
🔵🔴 Who fits Flick’s football?
🔵🔴 Who can handle Barça’s pressing demands?
🔵🔴 Who provides the right balance alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha?
🔵🔴 Who can consistently threaten defenders with pace and movement?
🔵🔴 Who fits the club’s long-term sporting project?
That’s where Gordon became such an intriguing option. 👀🔥
Barcelona aren’t necessarily looking for the player with the biggest reputation. They are looking for the player who can make their system better.
And if Deco’s latest comments are anything to go by, the decision to prioritise Gordon was far more calculated than many fans initially realised. 🧠⚽
Rashford may have had the bigger name. But Gordon may have been the better tactical fit. 🥶🔥
Now the big question is…
DID BARÇA MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE? 🤔🔵🔴
