Manchester United’s managerial situation is suddenly heating up, and two of the biggest names in world football have been linked with the job. 👀🔥
With Michael Carrick under increasing pressure following United’s difficult opening to the 2026/27 campaign, reports have again placed Mauricio Pochettino and Carlo Ancelotti among the high-profile managers connected with the Old Trafford job.
And the timing could hardly be more dramatic.
United have taken just four points from their opening four Premier League matches, while the 3–2 defeat to Brighton in the Carabao Cup was particularly damaging. United led 2–0 before conceding three times, becoming the first time in 50 years that they had lost at Old Trafford after taking a two-goal lead.
That result has intensified the questions around Carrick.
Now imagine the possibility of Pochettino or Ancelotti walking into Old Trafford. 😮💨
Pochettino brings extensive Premier League experience, having previously managed Tottenham and Chelsea, while Ancelotti’s résumé includes league titles and Champions League triumphs across several European clubs. Both have previously been reported as names considered in United’s wider managerial planning.
But there is an important twist.
Recent reporting says there is not currently confirmation that INEOS has decided to sack Carrick. Manchester United remain publicly committed to him as head coach, while other reports say the club has been conducting due diligence on potential managerial targets as pressure has grown.
So the situation is becoming a fascinating one.
Carrick has already shown that he can deliver strong results at United. But his current side has struggled to turn promising moments into consistent results, and the defeat to Brighton has only increased the scrutiny.
Meanwhile, names such as Pochettino and Ancelotti naturally create headlines because of their experience at the very highest level. 🔥
The big question now is whether Carrick can change the mood before the speculation becomes even louder.
One thing is certain:
The pressure at Manchester United is rising… and the names being mentioned as possible alternatives are getting bigger. 👀🔴🔥
Carrick has the job for now.
But with Pochettino and Ancelotti being discussed, the Manchester United dugout suddenly has everyone watching. 😳🔥
