Real Madrid are reportedly frustrated with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s lack of response amid their increasing interest in the Liverpool star. According to Sky Sports Switzerland, this has led them to consider pursuing Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich instead.
Los Blancos have been on the lookout for a new right-back for nearly a year, with Alexander-Arnold emerging as their top target back in March 2024. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, his future at Liverpool is uncertain, though he has yet to make a final decision.
At the beginning of the January transfer window, Real Madrid attempted to sign Alexander-Arnold immediately.
However, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool made it clear they were not open to negotiations and remain determined to keep the 26-year-old.

Sky Sports Switzerland claims that the delay in talks has frustrated Real Madrid, who had hoped to finalize a deal this month. As a result, they are now exploring the possibility of signing Kimmich, with two main reasons in mind: Kimmich would serve as a backup option if Alexander-Arnold’s move falls through, and discussions with the Bayern player could help divert attention from their primary target.
Both Kimmich and Alexander-Arnold are set to become free agents this summer. Neither player has publicly committed to staying with their current clubs, and both have been linked with multiple transfers across Europe.
In fact, Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Kimmich if Alexander-Arnold leaves.
While some reports in Spain had previously suggested Alexander-Arnold had already made a decision about his future, he has since downplayed such claims.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot and his team have their hands full with ongoing contract talks. In addition to Alexander-Arnold, both Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have yet to sign new contracts.
If no agreements are reached, the trio could all leave on free transfers this summer, though discussions are ongoing to secure their futures at the club.
