The idea would give United something different in attack, particularly Rashford’s pace running directly at centre-backs. Cunha, meanwhile, could operate from the left where he has more freedom to drift inside, combine with Bruno Fernandes and attack spaces around the box.
And there is a reason the debate has intensified. United have shown a tendency to rely heavily on deliveries from wide areas, while Cunha’s strengths are more about movement, link-up play and creating from deeper positions rather than dominating aerial battles.
