There was a time when I looked at Rodri’s unbelievable unbeaten run at Manchester City and honestly thought it was just one of those crazy football coincidences.
I knew he was good. I knew he was an important midfielder.

At the time, I thought:
“Come on… surely that’s not all because of one midfielder?”
Then I watched him more closely with Spain 🇪🇸.
Little by little, I started noticing things.
The positioning.
The calmness.
The ability to slow a game down.

And even then, I still wasn’t completely convinced.
But now that Rodri is playing for Barcelona, watching him up close has completely changed my perspective. 🔵🔴

In Barça’s 3–1 victory at the Sánchez-Pizjuán, Rodri completed the entire match and won 4 of 5 tackles, made 5 recoveries, 3 interceptions and 2 clearances, while completing 66 of 73 passes. He also produced a crucial last-ditch tackle on Félix Correia before half-time to prevent a clear opportunity.
THAT is the Rodri effect.
Barcelona may have scored three goals.
Raphinha may have stolen the headlines with his hat-trick. ⚽⚽⚽🔥
Lamine Yamal may have dazzled.
But there are moments in a match where one defensive action can be just as valuable as a goal.
And that intervention against Sevilla was exactly that kind of moment.
Because Rodri doesn’t just defend in front of the back four.

The crazy thing is that Barcelona aren’t relying on Rodri to do everything.
