Liverpool have been handed another injury concern during the international break, with Cody Gakpo forced off early for the Netherlands against Serbia. The Dutch forward lasted only around 17 minutes before being replaced after taking a heavy challenge.
Gakpo had started the match in Belgrade but was unable to continue after the challenge left him struggling with an issue around his lower left leg/ankle. He initially attempted to play on before eventually signalling that he could not continue.
It is another frustrating development for Liverpool during an already complicated international break. Alexander Isak has also suffered an injury while away with Sweden, meaning Liverpool now have concerns surrounding two important attacking players.
The timing is particularly unfortunate for Gakpo. The Dutchman had been enjoying a strong start to the season and had already produced important attacking contributions for Liverpool under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Gakpo also scored a stoppage-time equaliser against Germany earlier in the international period, showing just how important he remains to the Netherlands.
For now, the full extent of the latest problem is still being assessed. Reports indicate that Gakpo is expected to undergo further medical checks, meaning Liverpool will have to wait for a clearer diagnosis before knowing how long he could be unavailable.
Liverpool fans will now be hoping the injury is nothing serious and that their forward can return to Merseyside in good condition.
Another international break.
