Manchester United have produced generations of legendary footballers, but putting together one ultimate starting XI is almost impossible. Every era has its icons, and this fan-made lineup has certainly picked some huge names. 👀🏆
🧤 Edwin van der Sar gets the nod in goal, bringing his calmness, experience and incredible record during United’s trophy-laden years.
At right-back is Gary Neville, one of the most decorated defenders in the club’s history. Beside him, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidić form a formidable centre-back partnership, combining Ferdinand’s elegance and composure with Vidić’s aggression and leadership. 💪🔴
But then comes the first major controversy… Luke Shaw at left-back! 😳
Shaw has had some outstanding periods at United, but placing him ahead of legendary options such as Denis Irwin and Patrice Evra is guaranteed to divide supporters. Irwin, in particular, has frequently appeared in historical United XIs and was highly regarded for his consistency and versatility.
🔥 The midfield is where things get even crazier.
Roy Keane provides the leadership and intensity, while Bruno Fernandes occupies the other midfield position. Bruno has produced some outstanding numbers and moments since arriving at Old Trafford, but his inclusion in an all-time XI is naturally one of the biggest talking points because legends such as Paul Scholes, Bobby Charlton and Bryan Robson are competing for those midfield places.
Then comes an attacking group that is almost impossible to argue against: Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and Eric Cantona. 🤯🔥
Ronaldo became a global superstar at United, Giggs remains synonymous with the club’s history, Rooney is United’s record goalscorer, while Cantona played a huge role in the transformation of the club during the early Premier League era.
Still, there are some gigantic names missing.
Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Irwin, Denis Law and Bryan Robson could all make serious cases for inclusion depending on the formation and criteria used. Multiple historical United XIs have featured several of these legends.
