Liverpool Eye Marc Bernal

Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Barcelona wonderkid Marc Bernal, with the Reds believed to be considering a move for the talented defensive midfielder in 2027.

The 19-year-old has emerged as one of La Masia’s most exciting midfielders. Standing at 1.93m, Bernal combines physical presence with strong defensive awareness, tactical intelligence and the ability to control the space in front of the defence.

Andoni Iraola is reportedly a huge admirer of the youngster and could see him as an ideal addition to Liverpool’s midfield. The Spanish coach is believed to appreciate Bernal’s qualities and versatility, making the Barcelona star an intriguing potential target for Anfield.

Bernal has already made a significant impact at Barcelona despite his young age. He broke into the first team at just 17 before suffering a serious knee injury that kept him out for more than a year. Since returning, he has worked his way back into Hansi Flick’s plans and continues to develop at the highest level.

What makes the situation even more interesting is that Barcelona are reportedly reluctant to let him go. Bernal’s contract currently runs until 2029, and the club recently moved to secure his future as part of their commitment to developing La Masia talent.

However, competition for his place in Barcelona’s midfield could become a major factor. With stars such as Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Rodri competing for midfield minutes, Bernal’s role could determine whether he remains committed to fighting for a starting position or considers a new challenge.

Liverpool could therefore be ready to pounce if the opportunity appears in 2027. Iraola already knows the Premier League inside out, and adding a young, powerful defensive midfielder with Barcelona’s technical education could be a serious long-term move for the Reds.

Bernal is also among the young Barcelona talents shortlisted for the 2026 Golden Boy award, further highlighting the reputation he is building across Europe.

A La Masia midfielder arriving at Anfield under Iraola? That sounds VERY interesting.

He looks like a perfect signing for us!
