Manchester United are preparing for a massive European showdown against Atlético Madrid, and there is plenty of drama surrounding Michael Carrick’s squad selection! 😳🔥
The Red Devils travel to Spain for their Champions League clash on Tuesday, October 13, hoping to deliver a statement performance against Diego Simeone’s dangerous side. After opening their European campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Sabah, United will be desperate to carry that confidence into another challenging encounter. 💪🏆
However, the preparations have not been entirely smooth, with injury concerns forcing Carrick to make some difficult decisions ahead of the trip.
🚨 KOBBIE MAINOO AND LUKE SHAW ARE OUT!
United have suffered a double injury blow, with both Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw ruled out after picking up issues during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. Neither player travelled to Madrid, leaving Carrick with important decisions to make in midfield and defence. 😬
With Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui, Manuel Ugarte and Benjamin Šeško also sidelined, United must find solutions with the players available. The pressure is on the remaining squad members to step up when it matters most! 🔥
💥 MATTHIJS DE LIGT RETURNS!
There is, however, a major boost for United supporters! Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt has travelled with the squad after a lengthy spell on the sidelines because of a back injury.
His return is particularly significant at a time when United need greater defensive stability. Could his presence provide the experience and strength needed to frustrate Atlético’s attacking threats? 👀🛡️
Young defender Dan Armer has also travelled, giving the youngster an opportunity to experience the atmosphere surrounding a major European fixture.

🔥 BRUNO FERNANDES MUST LEAD THE WAY!
With Mainoo unavailable, Bruno Fernandes’ leadership and creativity could become even more important. United need their captain to dictate the tempo, create chances and help the team maintain its composure against Atlético’s aggressive pressing and organised defence. 🧠🎯
Carlos Baleba could also have a crucial role to play in midfield, while Mason Mount and Andrey Santos offer Carrick alternative options as he looks to find the right balance.
⚡ WHO WILL CARRICK TRUST IN ATTACK?
Matheus Cunha, Amad Diallo, Marcus Rashford, Bryan Mbeumo and Joshua Zirkzee provide different attacking options, while young Shea Lacey could be another name for supporters to watch.
Against a side managed by the experienced Diego Simeone, United will need pace, creativity, clinical finishing and defensive discipline. One mistake could prove costly, but one moment of brilliance could change everything! 😈🔥
🔴 UNITED FANS, THIS IS A HUGE TEST!
Atlético Madrid are formidable opponents on their own ground, and United cannot afford to switch off for even a second. Carrick needs his available players to show character, fight for every ball and take their chances when they arrive.
The big question is whether the Red Devils can overcome their injury problems and return from Spain with a massive European result. 👀✈️🏆
