The debate is getting HOT! 🔥 Two explosive left-backs, two different styles, and one big question: If you had to choose between PSG’s Nuno Mendes and Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, who would you pick? 🤔⚽
🇵🇹 NUNO MENDES: THE COMPLETE LEFT-BACK? 💪🔥
Nuno Mendes has established himself as one of the most exciting full-backs in modern football. The Portuguese star combines blistering pace with physical strength, defensive aggression, and impressive attacking ability.
He is not just a defender who stays back to protect his goal. Mendes loves driving forward, taking on opponents, delivering dangerous crosses, and joining attacks with the confidence of a winger. 💨🎯
What makes him particularly dangerous is his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch. He can defend aggressively, recover quickly when his team loses possession, and immediately become an attacking threat.
His performances for Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal have strengthened his reputation as one of the elite left-backs in world football. In FourFourTwo’s December 2025 ranking of the world’s best left-backs, Mendes took the number-one position, with Balde ranked second. 👑🏆
🔵🔴 ALEJANDRO BALDE: BARCELONA’S SPEED MACHINE! 🚀💙❤️
But don’t underestimate Alejandro Balde! The Barcelona academy graduate is a special talent who brings incredible energy, speed, and attacking intent to Hansi Flick’s team.
Balde’s greatest weapon is his ability to carry the ball from deep positions and turn defence into attack in seconds. When he accelerates down the left flank, opposing defenders are often forced to retreat because giving him space can be extremely dangerous. ⚡😮💨
His overlapping runs create space for Barcelona’s forwards, while his ability to beat opponents helps the team stretch compact defences.
Balde also enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 campaign, making 47 official appearances for Barcelona and recording eight assists. Those numbers demonstrated just how important he can be to Barça’s attacking system. 📊🔥
At just 23 years old in October 2026, he still has room to improve his defensive positioning, crossing, and consistency. Writing him off now would be a huge mistake!
🛡️ DEFENDING: WHO HAS THE ADVANTAGE?
Nuno Mendes gets the edge here. His physicality, aggression in duels, and ability to handle demanding one-on-one situations make him a formidable opponent for dangerous wingers.
Balde, however, has the pace to recover when opponents get behind him. He is also capable of using his mobility to close down spaces and support Barcelona’s high defensive line.
The difference is that Mendes currently offers a more complete defensive package, while Balde still has areas of his game to refine. 💪
⚡ SPEED AND DRIBBLING: A CLOSE CONTEST!
This is where things get interesting! Both players possess the explosive acceleration needed to dominate the left flank.
Balde is particularly dangerous when carrying the ball into open space, while Mendes combines his speed with strength and direct attacking movement.
Choosing a clear winner in this category is difficult. Both can cause serious problems for opposing right-backs! 💨🔥
🎯 ATTACKING CONTRIBUTION: WHO IS MORE DANGEROUS?
Mendes has the advantage in the overall comparison because of his combination of direct running, crossing, shooting, and defensive contribution.
Balde, meanwhile, provides Barcelona with valuable width and can create opportunities through his overlapping runs and ability to break defensive lines.
Both are capable of changing games, but Mendes currently looks like the more complete all-round package.
🏆 THE FINAL VERDICT: NUNO MENDES OR ALEJANDRO BALDE?
If I had to choose one left-back to start for my team right now, I would pick Nuno Mendes because of his overall balance between defending, attacking, physicality, and big-game experience.
However, Balde is an exceptional young defender who deserves patience and continued trust from Barcelona. He has the tools to become one of the best left-backs in the world.
And there is another important development: PSG announced on 18 October 2026 that Mendes had suffered a thigh injury and would miss several weeks, ruling him out of the upcoming Champions League clash against Barcelona. His absence is a significant blow for PSG ahead of a crucial encounter. 🚨🏥
🥇 Nuno Mendes 🇵🇹 — The more complete left-back right now!
🥈 Alejandro Balde 🇪🇸 — An explosive talent with plenty of room to grow!
💣 BARÇA FANS, LET’S SETTLE THIS DEBATE! 💙❤️
Would you replace Alejandro Balde with Nuno Mendes if you had the opportunity, or would you keep trusting Balde to develop into the best left-back in the world?
