Arsenal Team News: Projected XI vs Man City with Six Changes for Crucial Match
Mikel Arteta is set to make six changes to the starting lineup as Arsenal prepare for their crucial clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
After resting key players in the 2-1 win over Girona in the Champions League, Arteta will bring his main stars back for this pivotal match against the Premier League champions. William Saliba, who was given a rare break in midweek, is expected to return, while other rested players will rejoin the lineup as Arsenal aim to close the gap on leaders Liverpool.
Here’s how Arsenal could line up:
Predicted XI (4-3-3)
Goalkeeper: David Raya
Arteta faces uncertainty about Raya’s fitness after the goalkeeper dealt with a muscular issue. Raya’s replacement, Neto, struggled during his debut, leading to a costly error. Arteta has not confirmed if Raya will be ready, but he may have to take a risk due to the importance of the match.
Defenders: Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori
Saliba is set to return after being rested in midweek, with Jakub Kiwior likely making way. Myles Lewis-Skelly is available but could start on the bench, giving Calafiori another chance in the starting XI. Timber will remain at right-back, with Ben White still out due to knee surgery.
Midfielders: Thomas Partey, Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard
Rice is expected to return to the starting lineup after being rested, with Partey possibly shifting back into midfield after filling in at right-back. Jorginho may be dropped for the match.
Forwards: Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard
Trossard will likely move back to the left-wing after playing as a false nine midweek, allowing Havertz to return to the lineup. Ethan Nwaneri, who impressed with a goal against Girona, may feature later but is expected to be managed carefully due to a recent muscle injury. Martinelli is set to reclaim his spot in the starting XI.
Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka are still sidelined with long-term injuries and won’t be included in the squad.
