Manchester United supporters could be in for a major surprise following fresh claims surrounding Marcus Rashford and a potential move to their bitter rivals, Manchester City.
According to Manchester United reporter Phil Brown, Manchester City previously attempted to convince Rashford to leave Old Trafford before he signed his new contract with the Red Devils in July 2023.
The most interesting part of the story involves Omar Berrada, who was working as Manchester City’s Chief Football Operations Officer at the time and is now Manchester United’s chief executive.
Brown claims Berrada was prepared to offer Rashford significantly more money to join Manchester City, but the England international ultimately chose to remain at his boyhood club.
The journalist also questioned Manchester United’s handling of Rashford’s contract situation, suggesting that the club’s ownership had financial reasons for wanting to keep the forward under contract during the period when the Glazers were considering a potential sale.
Interestingly, Rashford subsequently spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona, helping the Catalan giants win La Liga. However, Barcelona decided against activating their reported £26 million purchase option, meaning he returned to Manchester United.
These revelations have reopened an uncomfortable conversation about Rashford’s relationship with United and the decisions that shaped his future.
Imagine what would have happened if Rashford had actually crossed the Manchester divide to join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City!
🔴 Would Manchester United supporters ever forgive him for joining their biggest rivals?
💣 And what do you make of Omar Berrada’s alleged involvement in City’s previous attempt to sign Rashford?
Note: These claims originate from journalist Phil Brown and have not been officially confirmed by Manchester City or Manchester United.
