Football has witnessed countless legends, but very few have written a story as extraordinary as Cristiano Ronaldo’s. Today, the football world celebrates an icon as CR7 officially brings his remarkable international career with Portugal to an end. 😢🇵🇹
After 23 unforgettable years, the legendary No. 7 has announced his retirement from international football, bringing down the curtain on one of the most incredible journeys the beautiful game has ever witnessed.
From an 18-year-old boy making his Portugal debut in August 2003 to becoming the country’s greatest goalscorer and most-capped player, Ronaldo has given an entire nation countless reasons to dream, believe and celebrate. ❤️
But look at what he leaves behind! 🤯🔥
🏆 234 international appearances
⚽ 146 international goals – a men’s international football record.
🌍 Six FIFA World Cup appearances
🔥 11 World Cup goals, scoring at six different tournaments.
🏆 Euro 2016 champion, leading Portugal to their first-ever European Championship.
🏆 2019 and 2025 UEFA Nations League champion.
These are not just statistics. They represent decades of dedication, sacrifices, unforgettable nights, heartbreaks, comebacks and an unbreakable desire to win.
Remember Euro 2016? Ronaldo’s dream of lifting a major international trophy finally became reality. Even though an injury forced him off during the final against France, he continued encouraging his teammates from the sidelines as Portugal went on to make history. That moment will forever remain one of the most emotional chapters of his career. 🥹🏆
And now, the moment nobody wanted to arrive has come.
Ronaldo confirmed that it was time to hand back Portugal’s famous No. 7 shirt, explaining that the decision was not easy because some decisions are made with the heart.
His message was filled with gratitude towards his teammates, coaches, staff, family and millions of Portuguese supporters who stood behind him throughout the journey.
The Portuguese Football Federation has also paid tribute to their legendary captain, recognising his extraordinary contribution to the nation and the generations he inspired.
But here’s something important: CRISTIANO RONALDO IS NOT RETIRING FROM CLUB FOOTBALL! He is expected to continue his playing career with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. 🇸🇦🔥
The international chapter is closing, but the football journey continues.
For 23 years, he carried the hopes of Portugal on his shoulders. He made millions celebrate, gave children a reason to pick up a football and showed the world what discipline, ambition and an extraordinary winning mentality can achieve.
Some players leave behind trophies. Others leave behind records. Cristiano Ronaldo leaves behind an entire generation of football memories.
The No. 7 shirt will belong to another player, but nobody can erase what Cristiano Ronaldo did while wearing it.
THANK YOU, CRISTIANO RONALDO! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING! ❤️🐐
THE END OF AN ERA, BUT THE BEGINNING OF AN ETERNAL LEGACY. 🇵🇹👑
SIUUUUUUUU! 🔥
