Pep Guardiola has admitted that allowing a key player to leave Manchester City for just £50M was a major mistake, especially now that the former City star is ranked higher than all of City’s current players in the Ballon d’Or standings, including Rodri.

Guardiola, known for his meticulous approach to squad management, rarely makes errors in the transfer market. However, in this case, he seemingly underestimated the player’s potential. In a recent interview, he confessed, “We sold him for just £50M, and now he’s ranked above ALL our players in the Ballon d’Or, including Rodri! Letting him go was my BIGGEST mistake!”

At the time, City felt confident they could move on without him, accepting an offer they believed was fair. But under a new manager, the player has developed into a world-class talent, outshining his former teammates and moving ahead of them in the prestigious rankings. This has led to frustration among City fans, many of whom are questioning why the club let such a valuable player go so easily.

For Guardiola, who has masterminded one of football’s most successful teams, this transfer might remain one of his biggest regrets. While City continues to dominate domestically, watching a former player thrive on the global stage is a hard pill to swallow. The real concern now is whether Manchester City will make a similar mistake in the future.
