Liverpool are reportedly preparing a bold move for their top transfer target this summer, which could involve a high-profile player in a swap deal.
After a quiet winter transfer window, which has left many Liverpool fans frustrated, manager Arne Slot has reassured supporters that the club is content with the current squad but plans to make signings in the summer.
It now seems that Liverpool is ready to make their first transfer bid of the year, and they’re willing to part with one of their own players to secure a deal.
One position that fans feel needs strengthening is up front. While Diogo Jota is a fan favorite, his injury record makes him unreliable for a full season. Additionally, backup options Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have not impressed in the striker role this season, making the addition of a new forward likely.
Reports suggest that Liverpool is targeting Newcastle United’s highly sought-after striker, Alexander Isak, as the ideal fit. However, convincing the Geordie club to sell their star forward, valued at over £100 million, will not be easy.
To facilitate the deal, Football Insider reports that Liverpool is considering including Nunez in a player-plus-cash offer. Signed from Benfica for £85 million in 2022, Nunez is now valued at around £60 million. Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £63 million in the same window, has scored 54 goals and provided 9 assists in 96 appearances for the Magpies, compared to Nunez’s 39 goals and 22 assists in 130 appearances for Liverpool.
However, Liverpool will face competition from Arsenal, who are also interested in Isak as they look to address their own need for a new striker this summer.
