Following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, Darwin Nunez’s post-match behavior has stirred up strong reactions from fans online.
Although Liverpool remained at the top of the Premier League, their draw has allowed Arsenal, with a game in hand, to close the gap in the title race. This result has raised concerns about momentum shifting away from the Reds.
Many supporters have expressed frustration over Nunez’s performance, particularly his miss just before the 70-minute mark when he failed to convert a clear chance from Dominik Szoboszlai. His left-footed shot sailed over the bar, leaving fans disappointed that he couldn’t even hit the target. Aston Villa fans celebrated the miss, while Liverpool supporters groaned in disbelief.
But it wasn’t just his on-field performance that caught attention. After the match, while the rest of the Liverpool squad, led by Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, were applauding the traveling fans, Nunez made a beeline for the tunnel, skipping the traditional gesture of appreciation. To add fuel to the fire, he was seen chatting with Aston Villa’s goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, which fans on X (formerly Twitter) found inappropriate.
One fan criticized Nunez’s attitude, recalling how he deleted all of his Liverpool-related posts from social media: “Here’s our players applauding the fans, and there’s Nunez, taking his shirt off and heading to the dressing room. His attitude stinks, just like when he deleted all Liverpool posts.”
