He arrived at The Amex in August 2023, experiencing a mixed amount of playing time in Brighton’s lineup during his first season. However, under Fabian Hürzeler this season, the midfielder has become a regular starter, featuring in 27 matches across all competitions.
Baleba’s standout performances have caught the attention of top English clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
In an interview with Africa Foot, former Cameroon international Bernard Tchoutang shared his thoughts on the 21-year-old’s progress at Brighton. Initially, he expected Baleba to take two years to adjust to the Premier League, but he’s been surprised by his rapid development.
According to the outlet, Brighton is demanding a significant fee for the player as several top clubs keep an eye on his situation.
Tchoutang feels that Baleba is ready for a big move but suggests staying with Hürzeler’s team for another season wouldn’t be detrimental to his development.
“The transfer fees don’t faze him. He’s mentally strong, guided well by his parents, and I don’t think large sums would distract him. The key question is whether he’s ready to move to a top club next summer,” Tchoutang stated.
“Spending another year at Brighton wouldn’t be an issue. But I believe he’s ready to transfer. If he were in another league, I might have suggested he stay longer, but this is his second season in England, and if top clubs are showing interest, it’s because they trust in his quality.”
Tchoutang believes Liverpool is a better fit for Baleba over Chelsea, and here’s why:
“For me, Liverpool would be the perfect choice!” he said.
“It’s not just because they’re the best team in the Premier League this season and one of the strongest in Europe. Arne Slot’s playing style would suit him perfectly. Liverpool’s pressing, attacking, and quick transitions align with his strengths, and the club is known for trusting young players and giving them responsibility.”
“Chelsea are having a decent season, but they’re a step below Liverpool and Arsenal. I believe Baleba has the talent to play for one of England’s top clubs. He’s ready and working hard for it.”
