Isak, with his impressive 19-goal tally this season, has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League, sitting joint-second in the Golden Boot race alongside Erling Haaland, only behind the exceptional Mo Salah. Alongside Arsenal, Liverpool has been heavily linked with the 25-year-old, and a new report suggests that Liverpool’s hopes of signing him could be boosted.
Newcastle Preparing for Life After Isak
According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle has already identified a potential replacement for Isak in case they need to sell him to meet the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club is reportedly targeting Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt as Isak’s successor. Ekitike had previously attracted interest from the Magpies when he was at Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle is said to value Isak at a staggering £150 million, a price tag that would limit the number of clubs able to afford him.
Could Newcastle Be Forced to Sell Isak?
The speculation surrounding Ekitike’s potential arrival doesn’t automatically confirm that Isak will leave, but it certainly raises questions, especially considering the PSR regulations. The idea of Liverpool spending £150 million on one player seems unlikely, particularly when their current transfer record is £85 million for Darwin Nunez. Ironically, Nunez could be the one to make way if Liverpool moves for Isak.
However, if Newcastle finds itself in a position where selling Isak is their only option—especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League—Liverpool’s Richard Hughes might be able to negotiate a more reasonable price for the 25-year-old, who has already been praised by Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler.
Isak is in fine form, having scored seven league goals since January, which only adds to his appeal. Given his impressive performance, it’s clear why Liverpool is keen to sign him from their Premier League rivals.
Newcastle is unlikely to secure Ekitike without first selling key players, and at the moment, Isak is their most valuable asset. This situation is certainly on Liverpool’s radar.
