The club is said to be monitoring Jamie Gittens, the 20-year-old left winger from Dortmund, who could now be available at a reduced price. Gittens moved from Manchester City to Dortmund in 2020 and has been linked with Liverpool multiple times this season.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool scouts have observed Gittens on several occasions. Sky Germany also reports that Dortmund is preparing for the potential departure of the winger at the end of the season.
Other clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich, are also interested, with the Premier League being Gittens’ preferred destination. Sky Germany adds that if Dortmund fails to secure a spot in the Champions League or Europa League, they may be forced to sell Gittens.
With 10 Bundesliga matches remaining, Dortmund is currently in 10th place, just five points off fifth place, which secures a Europa League spot. Dortmund has not finished lower than fifth since the 2014/15 season and has participated in the Champions League for nine consecutive years.
Gittens was initially valued at €100 million (£82.7 million), but this figure was seen as unrealistic, with a more reasonable price range of €60 million (£49.6 million) to €70 million (£57.9 million) now suggested.
The winger has made 94 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 16 goals and providing 10 assists. While mainly playing on the left wing, he has also featured on the right side and once as an attacking midfielder. He has been a regular for the England U21s in the past two seasons.
Liverpool has strong options on the left wing, with Cody Gakpo as the second-highest scorer and the versatile Luis Diaz. This raises questions about their interest in Gittens, though potential changes to the attacking setup under Arne Slot this summer could shift priorities.
Diaz has been linked with Barcelona, and with his contract entering its final two years in July, alongside speculation over Mohamed Salah’s future and Darwin Nunez’s potential departure, Liverpool could be reshaping their attack, leaving room for Gittens.
