Among the names on his wishlist are Luis Díaz and Jamal Musiala, but his top target is Florian Wirtz, the Bayer Leverkusen star whom Flick greatly admires.
Flick has followed Wirtz’s journey closely, having given him his first cap for the German national team. Despite suffering a severe knee injury nearly three years ago, Wirtz has bounced back and emerged as one of the best midfielders in the world, thanks in part to the guidance of Xabi Alonso.
Naturally, several top European clubs are chasing Wirtz, and Flick is eager for Barcelona to join the race. Although the club already has talented midfielders like Dani Olmo and Fermín López, Wirtz remains Flick’s top priority. He has urged Laporta and Deco to go all-in for the 20-year-old.
However, landing Wirtz won’t be easy. The deal could cost over €130 million — a massive sum considering Barcelona’s current financial struggles. Plus, with heavy interest from powerhouses like Manchester City and PSG, the competition is fierce, making the operation even more challenging.
