It sounds like Liverpool fans had a bit of a scare watching Alexis Mac Allister’s international match with Argentina against Peru.
The challenge from Peruvian defender Carlos Zambrano, especially given its late and high nature, was a nasty one, but luckily Mac Allister seems to have come through without injury.
Still, with the fixture congestion ahead, there’s a real possibility that Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp might choose to rest him for Sunday’s match against Southampton to manage his workload—particularly with Mac Allister already on four yellow cards in the Premier League.
Missing that game would also keep him fit for the critical match against Manchester City the following week, so there’s a lot of strategy at play here.
The fact that Mac Allister came through the international break relatively unscathed is a relief, but it’s clear that Liverpool will need to be cautious about his minutes over the next stretch of matches.
