Top Liverpool Player Nearing Exit Amid Interest from League Leaders
Liverpool are expected to make several squad changes this summer, with certain players likely to leave due to not fitting into new manager Arne Slot’s plans or in search of more playing time.
Italian publication Corriere dello Sport reports that Napoli are particularly interested in signing Darwin Nunez as they aim to bolster their attacking options. Sporting director Giovanni Manna is leading the club’s recruitment efforts, and Nunez is high on their list.
The Uruguayan striker has attracted attention from multiple clubs across Europe and Saudi Arabia. Since his £85 million move from Benfica in 2022, Nunez has struggled to secure a regular starting spot at Anfield, often finding himself on the bench. This situation has raised questions about his future with the Reds.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly monitoring him closely, with manager Diego Simeone being a known admirer. Liverpool are believed to be open to offers in the region of €45 million. Meanwhile, Saudi sides Al Hilal and Al Nassr are prepared to make lucrative offers to tempt him away.
As a result, a move away from the Premier League appears increasingly likely, with potential destinations including Serie A or La Liga.
With Champions League football secured for next season, Napoli believe Nunez could thrive in Italy and provide an extra edge to their attack. Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has also praised Nunez, calling him “one of the best center-forwards in the world.”
In addition to Nunez, Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott may also explore options elsewhere due to limited playing time this season.
