Enzo Maresca Addresses Questions on if He will be Recalling Lesley Ugochukwu or Andrey Santos from their loan spell

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has addressed speculation about recalling midfielders Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu from their loan spells, following injuries to key players Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez.

With both potentially unavailable for Chelsea’s upcoming match against Wolves, questions arose about the possibility of bringing back the two young midfielders, who are currently loaned out—Santos at Strasbourg and Ugochukwu at Southampton.

However, Maresca downplayed the need for a recall, stating, “No, because we don’t know if it’s a problem for them [Lavia and Fernandez], just that we don’t know if they will play the next game.”

This response suggests Chelsea is not yet planning to recall Santos or Ugochukwu, despite the current midfield concerns.

Lavia’s injury history has led some fans to suggest recalling one of the loaned players, particularly Santos, who has impressed in France, while Ugochukwu’s loan has been less consistent.

While Ugochukwu has had mixed performances at Southampton, Santos’ strong form at Strasbourg has made him a popular option among fans as a potential reinforcement.

With the midfield options limited due to injuries, a recall could provide Maresca with more depth, easing the pressure on the remaining fit players.

For now, Maresca appears content to wait and assess the situation regarding Lavia and Fernandez’s injuries, but fans will be keen to see whether the club revisits the idea of recalling one of the young midfielders, depending on how the injury situation develops.
