Arsenal Nearing Agreement for Viktor Gyokeres After Initial Bid

Arsenal is closing in on a contract deal with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres after submitting an initial offer.
Manager Mikel Arteta is actively seeking a new striker and has identified the 26-year-old Swedish forward as a key target. Gyokeres has had an outstanding season, scoring 52 goals and providing 13 assists in 50 appearances, making him one of Europe’s most in-demand attackers.
The North London club is reportedly negotiating a five-year contract worth around £175,000 per week—approximately £9 million a year.
Andrea Berta, who previously tried to sign Gyokeres at Atletico Madrid, has played a significant role in pushing Arsenal’s interest forward. While names like Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, and Victor Osimhen have been mentioned, Gyokeres remains Arsenal’s preferred option for the striker position, with Berta pushing for a swift deal.
Reports suggest Arsenal’s first bid of around £63.5 million has already been submitted, and personal terms with the player have been mostly settled. However, Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas sees this as just an opening offer and is expected to push for a higher transfer fee.
Gyokeres is also a contender for this year’s European Golden Boot, potentially increasing his valuation. Although Arsenal is leading the race, there’s a risk Chelsea could step in and trigger his £84.5 million release clause.
The potential deal may include performance-based bonuses, ranging from easily achievable goals to more ambitious targets like winning the Ballon d’Or.
As Arsenal prepares for the summer transfer window, their immediate focus remains on finishing the Premier League season strong. They face Newcastle United at home this Sunday, aiming to secure a top-five spot and Champions League qualification.
