EPL Banter: Alexis Mac Allister Expresses Frustration Over Injury Setback
Liverpool and Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has openly shared his disappointment after being ruled out of Argentinaโs upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to a persistent injury picked up during club play.
Mac Allister, who was instrumental in Argentinaโs 4-1 win over Brazil in Marchโnetting the third goalโwill now miss the matches against Chile and Colombia. Although Argentina has already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, Mac Allister isnโt content with sitting out.
โMissing out on the squad really frustrates me,โ he said. โItโs something thatโs been bothering me for a while. Iโve dealt with minor injuries all season.โ
Despite calling the injury โminor,โ he explained that stepping back now is a precaution to avoid worsening the problem with a busy season ahead. โPlaying for Argentina is never guaranteedโthereโs always fierce competition,โ he added.
He also praised the leadership within the national team, crediting Lionel Scaloni, Messi, Di Marรญa, and Otamendi for inspiring the squad to remain hungry for success even after previous triumphs.
Mac Allister has had a standout season at Liverpool, making 49 appearances and starting 30 Premier League games under Arne Slot, as the club pushed for the title. In an interview with DSports Radio, he underlined his competitive drive: โWinning is everythingโwhether with Liverpool or Argentina.โ
Looking forward, he spoke about his ambition to play in the next World Cup: โItโs going to be a tough tournament. France and Spain are strong, and Brazil, now under Ancelotti, will be a major contender.โ
Discussing his responsibilities at Liverpool, he reflected on the weight of wearing the No. 10 shirt: โIt comes with expectations, both on and off the field. But I welcome the challenge.โ
He concluded by expressing his love for the sport: โWhen Iโm on the pitch, I forget about the shirt number. I just want to enjoy playingโand I truly do.โ
