Liverpool Journalist Reveals Surprisingly Low Fee Atletico Madrid Intends to Offer for Robertson
Robertson to Atletico? Liverpool Fans Shocked by Low Offer Amid Transfer Rumors
Over the weekend, reports emerged that Andy Robertson might be open to a summer transfer to Atletico Madrid, leaving Liverpool supporters surprised.
On Saturday, Fabrizio Romano revealed that negotiations are already in progress between Atletico Madrid and Liverpool regarding the 31-year-old left-back, who is reportedly a top target for Diego Simeoneโs team.
More details about Atleticoโs pursuit of Robertson have come to light, and one particular fact is unlikely to please fans at Anfield.
Atleticoโs Bid for Robertson Raises Eyebrows
According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Atletico Madridโs offer for Robertson is just โฌ5 million (ยฃ4.2 million) โ a sum many Liverpool fans would find shockingly low for a player of his caliber.
Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2017 for ยฃ8.5 million and has since become a key figure both on the field and in the locker room. However, with only a year left on his contract and Milos Kerkez expected to join from Bournemouth, his long-term future at Liverpool is unclear.
Although Robertson is Atleticoโs main target, the club is reportedly also considering Aston Villaโs Lucas Digne as a backup if talks with Liverpool stall.
Selling Robertson for ยฃ4.2m Would Be a Big Error
Even though Robertsonโs performance dipped last season and his contract is nearing its end, selling him for just over ยฃ4 million would be a serious undervaluation.
At 31, he likely has several strong years ahead and could still play an important role under manager Arne Slot, especially with Liverpool competing on multiple fronts and needing squad depth.
If Robertson wants to move to Atletico after many years of service, Liverpool may have to consider it, but FSG shouldnโt be pressured into accepting a low offer that doesnโt reflect his true value โ especially if he remains important to the team.
Many Reds supporters will hope Atleticoโs bid falls through so the club focuses on signing Digne instead.
