Theo Walcott Disappointed in Arsenal for Missing Out on Chelsea Signing
Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has voiced his disappointment with manager Mikel Arteta for not attempting to sign a rising star who recently joined Chelsea. Speaking candidly, Walcott believes this missed opportunity could hurt Arsenalโs chances in the upcoming Premier League season.
Chelsea, who are bolstering their squad ahead of the Club World Cup, have brought in several young talents, including Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr. Coach Enzo Maresca has acknowledged the arrivals, stressing the need for patience as they grow into their roles.
Walcottโs main concern centers around Delap, a promising striker recently acquired from Ipswich Town. In an interview with The Athletic, he said:
โAs an Arsenal supporter, itโs frustrating to watch Delap go to Chelsea. Theyโve been missing a proper No. 9, someone in the style of Drogba. Delap could finally be that player, and possibly the next Harry Kane for England.โ
Walcott emphasized that Arsenal failed to act:
โIโm disappointed they didnโt make an effort to sign him. You can see his determinationโheโs fearless and always ready for a challenge.โ
Delap attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, but ultimately chose Chelsea. He could make his debut in their Club World Cup opener against LAFC.
Additionally, Chelsea are reportedly targeting Aston Villaโs Morgan Rogers. While Walcott admires Rogersโ ability, he criticized how the youngster was used out of position in a recent match:
โHe was barely involved because he wasnโt playing in his natural role,โ Walcott commented. โHeโs best with the ball at his feet and needs to be used accordingly.โ
If Chelsea complete a deal for Rogers, he is likely to play as an attacking midfielder or winger, supporting Delap.
