According to reports, Manchester United have offered forward Marcus Rashford to Real Madrid as they look to offload the 27-year-old this summer. The club is eager to part ways with Rashford, who no longer features in their long-term plans.
As reported by Spanish outlet Defensa Central (via Football365), United view Real Madrid as a suitable destination, particularly because new manager Xabi Alonso is in the market for a new striker. However, Rashford may not fit the profile Alonso is looking for, as he reportedly prefers a physically dominant striker in the mold of Joselu—strong in aerial duels and capable of leading the line.
Rashford was sidelined by United manager Ruben Amorim shortly after his appointment, prompting the England international to move to Aston Villa on loan in January. While at Villa, Rashford recorded four goals and six assists, attracting interest from several European clubs.
Barcelona were initially interested but have now shifted focus to Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams. Manchester United still hope Real Madrid, with their financial strength, will be able to afford Rashford’s reported £35 million price tag and his £300,000-a-week wages—figures that could prove to be obstacles for potential buyers.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid may be looking elsewhere. Reports suggest they are targeting Bayer Leverkusen’s Alejandro Grimaldo as a left-back alternative to Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras, whose €50 million release clause has cooled Madrid’s interest.
