Liverpool Take Bold Step After Wonderkid Dominates First-Team Training

Liverpool have reportedly been compelled to take significant action after a rising academy star made a major impact during first-team training sessions.

The Reds kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 win over Preston North End on Saturday. Goals from Conor Bradley, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo secured the victory on a day filled with emotion, as the club paid tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who tragically passed away in a car accident in Spain on July 3.

In light of Jotaโ€™s death, Liverpool gave extended time off to several first-team players, opening the door for a number of youth prospects to feature in the match.

One standout was 16-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, who joined from Chelsea in 2024. Already having made history as Liverpoolโ€™s youngest starter in an FA Cup tie against Accrington Stanley earlier this year, Ngumoha once again impressed with a lively display on Saturday.

Back in January, Anfield Watch reported that Ngumoha had been โ€œterrorisingโ€ senior players in training, with manager Arne Slot and his staff left โ€œmesmerisedโ€ by his raw talent. Liverpool were said to have removed clips of Ngumoha from their behind-the-scenes series Inside Training to manage hype and expectations.

Despite their cautious approach, Ngumohaโ€™s stock continues to rise. Journalist David Lynch now reports that the club is preparing to offer the youngster a professional contract once he turns 17 next month.

โ€œItโ€™s evident heโ€™s being primed for a larger role,โ€ Lynch said. โ€œThese pre-season games are his chance to shine and prove he deserves more opportunities during the season.โ€

Lynch added that Ngumoha is focused on continuing his development, staying with the first-team squad, and gaining more match experience.

Liverpool fans can expect more updates soon as the club works to tie down one of its brightest young prospects.
