Ibrahima Konate has shared his thoughts on Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool after the forward’s emotional interaction with the Anfield crowd, offering a strong hint that the Egyptian star’s story at the club may not be coming to an end just yet.
Salah sparked intense speculation earlier this month when he suggested that Liverpool’s match against Brighton could be his final appearance for the club before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations. The uncertainty around his future has been heightened by public comments in which he expressed frustration with the club, claiming he felt unfairly treated following a challenging start to the 2025–26 campaign.
The situation appeared to escalate when Salah admitted his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had deteriorated. After openly criticising the club following a draw with Leeds United, he was left out of the squad for Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Inter Milan, fuelling further doubts about his long-term future at Anfield.
A subsequent meeting with Slot, however, seemed to ease tensions. Salah returned to the matchday squad against Brighton and was introduced earlier than expected after Joe Gomez was forced off with an injury. His impact was immediate. In the second half, he provided an assist for Hugo Ekitike, a contribution that also saw him surpass Wayne Rooney’s Premier League record for the most goal involvements for a single club, taking his total to 277.
At the final whistle, Salah turned to the Kop, smiling broadly as supporters serenaded him with his familiar chant. While the moment carried a sense of warmth and appreciation, questions about his future remain as the January transfer window approaches.
Konate was later asked whether he believed Salah had played his last game for Liverpool, and his answer suggested optimism. The defender dismissed the idea, pointing to Salah’s deep affection for the club and the mutual respect he shares with teammates, supporters, and the coaching staff. Konate also acknowledged that players of Salah’s stature can feel frustration at times, especially after giving so much to a club over many years.
Despite these reassurances, interest from overseas continues to grow. Several clubs in the Saudi Pro League are monitoring Salah’s situation closely, with league officials openly confirming their admiration. Teams such as Al Hilal, Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, and Al Qadsiah are all reportedly considering potential moves, ensuring that speculation around Salah’s future is unlikely to fade anytime soon
