Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is reportedly edging closer to a move to Liverpool, with fresh developments suggesting an understanding has been reached ahead of the summer transfer window.
The England international is approaching the final months of his contract at Selhurst Park, which is set to expire in June. Current indications suggest Guehi is prepared to see out the remainder of his deal rather than commit his future to Palace, opening the door for a free transfer at the end of the season.
Liverpool’s interest in the defender is not new. The Merseyside club previously had a £35 million bid accepted on deadline day, only for Palace to withdraw from the agreement just hours before the transfer window closed. Despite that late setback, Liverpool have remained confident of securing the centre-back’s signature.
According to reports, Guehi remains keen on a switch to Anfield, and a so-called gentlemen’s agreement has now been put in place between the player and Liverpool. This understanding would see the defender complete his move once the current season concludes.
That said, the situation is not entirely settled. Crystal Palace could still opt to sell Guehi during the January transfer window if they decide to avoid losing him for nothing, which could alter the timeline of any potential transfer.
Liverpool are not the only club monitoring the situation closely. European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also believed to be tracking Guehi’s progress and may attempt to step in with offers of their own when the window reopens.
