Liverpool’s struggles defending set pieces reared their head once again as Wolves clawed a goal back from a corner, raising fresh concerns.
Despite dominating the first half and heading into the break with a comfortable two-goal advantage, Liverpool failed to deal with another dead-ball situation. Wolves capitalised on a corner when Hugo Bueno was left completely unmarked inside the six-yard box, pouncing on the loose ball after Alisson had initially saved a header.
The goal highlighted a recurring weakness that continues to undermine Liverpool’s performances. It marked the 12th time this season that the Reds have conceded from set pieces, including corners, free kicks, and long throws — an alarming statistic for a side with top-four ambitions.
Arne Slot has previously warned that Liverpool cannot realistically challenge at the top end of the table if this issue persists. Yet, rather than showing improvement, the problem has only intensified, once again putting unnecessary pressure on an otherwise solid display.
With defensive lapses from set plays becoming a familiar theme, Liverpool’s inability to shut games down cleanly remains a growing concern that simply cannot be ignored any longer.
