Liverpool’s ownership has reportedly made its stance clear in the growing tension between Mohamed Salah and head coach Arne Slot, choosing to stand firmly behind the manager despite the Egyptian forward’s explosive public comments. The decision has sparked intense debate among supporters and raised fresh questions about whether Salah’s iconic spell at Anfield may be approaching its conclusion.
The backdrop to the controversy was a chaotic 3–3 draw away at Leeds United, a match in which Liverpool squandered a two-goal advantage. Hugo Ekitike struck twice shortly after the break before Leeds responded with two quick goals of their own. Dominik Szoboszlai briefly restored Liverpool’s lead, only for Ao Tanaka to grab a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time.
Despite the drama on the pitch, the game itself was overshadowed by Salah’s post-match reaction. The 33-year-old was left unused throughout the contest at Elland Road and did not hide his frustration afterwards. In a stunning interview, Salah claimed the club had “thrown him under the bus” and strongly suggested that his relationship with Slot had broken down completely.

Salah’s role within the team has noticeably diminished in recent weeks. Having previously been an automatic starter under Slot, he has now been named on the bench for three consecutive matches. He was omitted from the starting lineup against West Ham and did not feature at all in the 2–0 win at the London Stadium, came on at halftime in the 1–1 draw with Sunderland, and was again left unused against Leeds.
With his departure for the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for December 15, Salah has further intensified speculation by hinting that the upcoming clash with Brighton could be his final appearance for Liverpool. This comes despite the fact that he signed a lucrative two-year contract extension earlier in the year, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already complex situation.
