Hansi Flick is becoming increasingly impressed by Hamza Abdelkarim, and the Barcelona youngster is giving the German coach plenty of reasons to believe that he could become an important piece of Barça’s attacking future. 👀🔥
Flick’s latest assessment of the Egyptian striker goes beyond simply praising his goals. The Barcelona boss specifically highlighted Hamza’s movement when attacking crosses and, perhaps even more importantly, his ability to hold up the ball and bring others into play.
🗣️ Flick: “Hamza is a good striker. We can see that when he attacks crosses. Today I saw him holding up the ball, which is good. This is what I want to see from him.”
That is a BIG compliment from Flick. 💙❤️
The 18-year-old has been turning heads throughout Barcelona’s preseason, scoring against Birmingham City, Basel and his former club Al Ahly in the Joan Gamper Trophy. His goal against Al Ahly was particularly emotional, coming against the club where he began his professional journey.
And the numbers are starting to make the noise impossible to ignore. Hamza finished Barcelona’s preseason with four goals, emerging as the club’s leading scorer during the preparation period. His performances have even pushed him into consideration for the squad ahead of the new La Liga campaign.
🔥 But Flick wants more than goals.
The German coach is clearly looking for a complete No. 9. Hamza’s ability to attack crosses, occupy defenders, protect the ball and link up with teammates could make him especially useful in Flick’s high-intensity attacking system.
That development is already becoming visible. Against Al Ahly, Hamza was trusted to lead the line from the start, showing that Flick is not simply giving him meaningless preseason minutes. The youngster is being tested against different opponents and different tactical situations.
What makes the story even more exciting is Hamza’s journey. After coming through Al Ahly’s academy and making his professional debut as a teenager, he moved into Barcelona’s setup and quickly began attracting attention. Barcelona eventually completed his permanent signing from Al Ahly for an initial fee reported at around €1.5 million.
Now, just months later, he is training and competing around some of the biggest names in world football. 🤯🔵🔴
Flick’s praise also comes at an interesting moment for Barcelona. The club has been looking for solutions at centre-forward, and Hamza’s rapid development has suddenly made the youngster a much more intriguing option.
He may still be developing and Barcelona will understandably want to manage his progression carefully, but his preseason performances have changed the conversation. What initially looked like a promising youth project is beginning to look like something much more exciting. 👀🔥
And Flick’s message is crystal clear: keep attacking, keep improving your hold-up play and keep showing the qualities of a real No. 9.
🇪🇬👑 Hamza Abdelkarim is knocking on the door.
The question now is… how long can Barcelona keep him waiting? 🔥🔵🔴
