Manchester United’s road back to Europe’s biggest stage now has a date, a destination and plenty of heavyweight obstacles. 🌍🏆
The Reds’ complete 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league-phase schedule has been confirmed, with United handed eight fascinating fixtures as they return to the competition. UEFA has confirmed that the league phase runs from September through January, with United opening at home and finishing away.
And what a way to begin! 😍
🔴 OLD TRAFFORD GETS THE FIRST EUROPEAN NIGHT
United will officially launch their Champions League campaign at the Theatre of Dreams on 10 September, welcoming Sabah to Old Trafford.
For supporters who have been waiting to hear that iconic Champions League anthem inside the stadium again, this is the night. 🎶🏟️🔴
The opening fixture gives United the perfect opportunity to make a statement before the schedule becomes considerably more demanding.
😳 THEN COMES ATLÉTICO MADRID
On 13 October, United face their first major European test when they travel to Spain to take on Atlético Madrid.
That will be a completely different challenge. Atlético are renowned for their intensity, organisation and ability to turn European nights into battles. 🔥🇪🇸
United will then travel to Italy on 21 October to face Como, giving the Reds two consecutive away fixtures in Europe.
🔥 ROMA COME TO THE THEATRE OF DREAMS
November begins with another huge night at Old Trafford.
Roma will visit Manchester on 3 November, bringing another traditional European heavyweight to the Theatre of Dreams. 🇮🇹🏟️
United then head to Portugal on 25 November for a meeting with Sporting CP.
That fixture carries an extra layer of intrigue because Sporting is Bruno Fernandes’ former club, making the Portuguese trip one supporters will undoubtedly have circled on the calendar. 👀🇵🇹
⚡ LEIPZIG NEXT, THEN THE BIG ONE…
On 8 December, United return home to face RB Leipzig.
But January is where the schedule really catches fire. 🔥🔥🔥
On 20 January 2027, Bayern Munich will arrive at Old Trafford.
Yes… BAYERN AT THE THEATRE OF DREAMS! 😱🏟️🔴
It is easily one of the headline fixtures of United’s entire league phase and promises to be one of those European nights supporters remember for years.
Two historic clubs. One famous stadium. Champions League football. 🌟🏆
🇪🇸 VILLARREAL TO FINISH THE LEAGUE PHASE
United’s final league-phase assignment comes on 27 January, when they travel to Spain to face Villarreal.
And because all 18 Matchday 8 games are scheduled simultaneously, the final night could carry serious significance for the Champions League table.
The new Champions League format means there are 36 teams in the league phase, with every club playing eight matches. The teams finishing in the top eight advance directly to the round of 16, while teams placed ninth to 24th enter the knockout play-offs.
