Karim Adeyemi has wasted virtually no time making his presence felt at Barcelona, and his electric start under Hansi Flick is already beginning to look like something much bigger than a promising transfer.
The German forward arrived from Borussia Dortmund in the summer on a contract running until 2031, with Flick already familiar with his qualities after handing him his Germany debut. Barcelona viewed Adeyemi as a player capable of injecting pace, directness and unpredictability into an attack that needed another explosive option.
But Adeyemi has gone a step further by immediately putting his name into the history books.
On his LaLiga debut against Elche, the 24-year-old found the net in first-half stoppage time after being played through by Raphinha. His composed finish completed a dream competitive debut and helped Barcelona cruise to a 5-0 victory.
That goal was not simply another debut strike. It placed Adeyemi on a remarkably exclusive list of German players who have scored on their first appearance in the history of LaLiga.
According to statistics highlighted by MisterChip, only five German players have achieved the feat: Walter Bockhardt with Barcelona in 1929, Andreas Brehme with Zaragoza in 1992, Oliver Neuville with Tenerife in 1996, Jeremie Toljan with Levante in 2025 and now Adeyemi with Barcelona in 2026.
The Barcelona connection makes the achievement even more intriguing. Adeyemi has now joined a list that includes one of the club’s historic German figures, while simultaneously beginning his own chapter at Camp Nou.
And the timing could hardly be better for Flick.
Barcelona have assembled an even deeper attacking unit this season, with Adeyemi joining the likes of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Anthony Gordon. His blistering pace gives Flick another weapon for a system built around aggressive attacking transitions and constant pressure.
Adeyemi’s arrival was initially viewed as a potentially clever piece of business rather than an obvious blockbuster. Barcelona secured him from Dortmund for a reported fee in the region of €29 million, a relatively modest investment for a 24-year-old forward with elite speed and considerable room to develop.
Now, after such an explosive opening, supporters have every reason to wonder whether Barcelona may have uncovered one of the bargains of the summer.
Flick clearly believes there is much more to come.
The German coach knows Adeyemi’s qualities better than most, and the winger’s ability to attack space, stretch defensive lines and arrive quickly inside the box fits perfectly with the football Flick wants his team to play.
One goal does not make a season, of course. But when that goal comes on your LaLiga debut and immediately places you among a tiny group of German players to have achieved the same feat, the excitement becomes impossible to ignore.
Adeyemi has arrived in Barcelona with expectations.
He has already answered them with history.
