Liverpool’s pursuit of Ismaïla Sarr may have suffered a major setback in the summer, but the story could be far from finished. The Senegalese forward remains a name firmly connected with Anfield, and reports suggest the Reds could consider returning for him when the January transfer window opens.
The summer saga was particularly dramatic. Liverpool made an approach for Sarr after identifying him as one of the attacking options who could help fill the enormous void left by Mohamed Salah’s departure. However, Crystal Palace refused to sanction the move and stood firm on their decision to keep the winger.
And that is where things became VERY interesting. 👀🔥
Sarr was reportedly disappointed that his dream move to Liverpool collapsed. His representatives were also unhappy with how the situation unfolded, with his agent publicly raising concerns about the way African players can sometimes be treated during major transfer negotiations.
The winger’s desire to move to Anfield only added more fuel to the fire. Reports suggested that Liverpool’s interest was genuine, while Sarr was keen on the opportunity to take the next step in his career.
But Palace slammed the door shut. 🚪❌
Manager Pierre Sage has since acknowledged that the failed transfer was difficult for Sarr emotionally, describing the opportunity as the kind of dream move many players would want. Sage has also indicated that Palace do not expect the attacker to leave during the January window, particularly with the club competing across multiple competitions.
That, however, has not completely killed Liverpool’s interest. 👀
🔴 Liverpool Could Come Knocking Again
Fresh reports suggest the Reds could reassess the situation in January after failing to secure Sarr during the summer.
Liverpool eventually decided not to push the Sarr deal over the line after keeping Cody Gakpo, who had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City. The Reds also strengthened their attack with Bradley Barcola and Victor Muñoz, but questions remain about whether they have a natural long-term option on the right side.
And this is precisely why Sarr could remain relevant.
The 28-year-old enjoyed an outstanding previous campaign, scoring 20 goals across competitions and playing a major role in Palace’s success. His form made him one of the club’s most valuable attacking players and understandably strengthened Palace’s determination to keep him.
😱 But Palace Aren’t Ready to Give In
Crystal Palace have already demonstrated that they are willing to reject Liverpool’s advances.
The club reportedly rejected an approach for Sarr and made it clear that he was not simply available for the taking. With the player still under contract and Palace involved in European competition, their negotiating position remains strong.
So if Liverpool return in January, the Reds may have to make a serious offer to even get Palace thinking.
And there is another twist. 👀
Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, another player Liverpool considered during their search for a right-sided attacker, could also remain an option for the Reds in the next transfer window. Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler has even hinted that Minteh could potentially fulfil his dream of moving to a bigger club in the future.
That means Liverpool could have several attacking options to consider when January arrives.
💥 Could Sarr Finally Get His Anfield Dream?
For Sarr, the situation is simple: the dream move disappeared at the final hurdle.
For Liverpool, however, the need for another attacking option could become clearer as the season progresses.
If Sarr continues producing at a high level and Liverpool decide they need another explosive wide attacker, expect this story to explode all over again. 🔥🔴
The summer transfer may have ended with Palace saying NO, but January could bring another phone call from Merseyside. 📞👀
