The Champions League lights were finally back on at Old Trafford, and Michael Carrick wasted no time making a statement with his starting XI against Sabah FC. 🌟🏟️
Senne Lammens was trusted in goal, while Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martínez and Patrick Dorgu formed the defensive line. In midfield, Youri Tielemans partnered Kobbie Mainoo, with Bruno Fernandes given the responsibility of pulling the strings from the No.10 position. ⚙️🔥
Up front, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha provided width and attacking threat, while Benjamin Šeško was handed his first start of the season at centre-forward. 🎯💥
And what a night it turned out to be! 😱🔴
United eventually blew Sabah away 4–0, with Cunha opening the scoring before Bruno Fernandes doubled the advantage. Šeško then announced himself with a goal just before half-time, sending the Red Devils into the break three goals ahead. 💣⚽
Lisandro Martínez completed the rout in the second half as United comfortably controlled the game and secured a clean sheet. 🧱🔥
One of the biggest talking points was Leny Yoro’s inclusion from the start. The young centre-back got valuable Champions League minutes alongside Martínez, giving Carrick another glimpse of what the partnership could become. 👀💎
Patrick Dorgu also caught the eye from left-back, contributing to the opening goal and showing plenty of attacking intent. His involvement was another positive for a United side looking to become more dangerous from wide areas. ⚡🔴
Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo once again impressed in midfield, with his composure helping United control the tempo. His performance earned plenty of praise after the final whistle. 👏🏾🔥
For Šeško, the night was particularly important. After scoring from the bench against Everton, the striker rewarded Carrick’s faith with another goal, strengthening his case for a bigger role in the weeks ahead. 🎯🇸🇮
And Bruno? Captain’s performance. Leader’s performance. Champions League performance. 🫡❤️
United have now made the perfect return to Europe’s biggest competition, with a 4–0 victory at Old Trafford giving Carrick and his squad a huge confidence boost. 🏆🔥
The biggest test is coming next, though… Manchester City. 👀🔥
