Barcelona’s possession game is already sending a message this season, and the passing numbers reveal just how important the team’s defenders have become in Hansi Flick’s system. 🧠⚽
At the very top of the list sits Pau Cubarsí, and the numbers are outrageous for a centre-back! 🤯🇪🇸
The young Barça defender has completed 382 passes in all competitions, doing so with a remarkable 96% accuracy while averaging 104 passes per 90 minutes. 📊🔥
That is not simply a defender recycling possession. Cubarsí is becoming one of the players Barcelona can trust to start attacks from deep, break pressure and keep the team moving forward. His composure on the ball has become one of his biggest weapons. 💎
And this is hardly a surprise anymore. Cubarsí has continued to develop into an increasingly important part of Flick’s side, with recent performances reinforcing just how comfortable he is both defensively and technically. Flick has also praised his development and consistency.
But Pedri is not far behind. 👑
The Barça midfielder has completed 300 passes, boasting a 94% completion rate. Pedri remains the heartbeat of Barcelona’s midfield, constantly offering himself between the lines, controlling tempo and helping the team escape pressure. 🎩✨
Then comes Andreas Christensen, who has completed 299 passes at an incredible 97% accuracy. 😮💨
Jules Koundé follows with 265 passes at 95%, showing once again that Barcelona’s build-up does not depend solely on their midfielders.
And then there is Lamine Yamal. 🥶🇪🇸
The teenage superstar has already completed 249 passes, despite operating primarily in advanced areas where possession is naturally riskier. His 83% passing accuracy shows that he is not just about dribbling, flair and spectacular goals. He is increasingly becoming a player capable of influencing the game in multiple phases.
With Lamine, Raphinha and the rest of Barça’s attacking stars constantly threatening opposition defences, the ability of the players behind them to circulate the ball quickly becomes absolutely crucial. ⚡🔵🔴
Gerard Martín has also quietly produced impressive numbers, completing 242 passes with 95% accuracy, while Rodri has already registered 225 passes at 96%, averaging a huge 102 passes per 90 minutes. 🧠🎯
Rodri’s influence has already been noticeable since becoming part of Flick’s midfield plans. His recent start against Valencia saw him complete 81 of 83 passes, while combining with Pedri to give Barça even more control in the middle.
And the numbers are spread throughout the squad:
🔹 Xavi Espart — 195 passes
🔹 Marc Bernal — 175
🔹 Eric García — 173
🔹 Fermín López — 156
🔹 Raphinha — 139
🔹 Dani Olmo — 134
🔹 Joan García — 120
🔹 Anthony Gordon — 111
🔹 João Cancelo — 99
🔹 Karim Adeyemi — 73
🔹 Gavi — 25
🔹 Gabriel Jesus — 24
What makes these numbers even more interesting is what they say about Flick’s Barcelona. 🔥
The team is not simply dominating possession for the sake of keeping the ball. Barcelona are building a structure where defenders can initiate attacks, midfielders can dictate rhythm and attackers are given the freedom to create damage in the final third.
That balance was on full display during Barça’s 5–0 demolition of Valencia, when Flick’s team completely controlled the game. Pedri, Rodri and Fermín helped dominate midfield while Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and the attack repeatedly exposed Valencia.
And Barcelona carried that momentum into Europe too, opening their Champions League campaign with a 5–1 victory over Feyenoord. 🔥🏆
So while everyone is understandably talking about the goals, assists and spectacular attacking combinations, there is another story developing underneath it all…
Barça are becoming frighteningly comfortable on the ball. 😮💨🔵🔴
And at just 19 years old, Cubarsí sitting at the top of the passing chart with 382 passes and 96% accuracy is perhaps the most exciting part of it all. 🚀
From La Masia wonderkid to one of Barça’s most trusted players in possession… Pau Cubarsí is only getting started. 🧠💙❤️
