😡 “I REALLY DON’T GET IT” — CARRICK SLAMS DERBY DECISION
Michael Carrick has made his frustration crystal clear after Manchester United’s painful 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, with the manager left stunned by the decision that allowed Erling Haaland’s controversial winner to stand. 🔴🔥
Haaland’s goal was initially ruled out for offside after Josko Gvardiol’s cross found the Norwegian at the far post. However, VAR intervened and overturned the decision after determining that Haaland himself was in an onside position. ⚽👀
But the biggest question surrounded Enzo Fernández.
The City midfielder was in an offside position and attempted to play the ball without making contact. Carrick strongly argued that Fernández’s movement affected United defender Lisandro Martínez and should therefore have been considered interference. 😤
Carrick was particularly unhappy with the lengthy VAR process, questioning how the officials could reach their conclusion despite having multiple camera angles and technological assistance available.
The United boss described the situation as “worrying”, making it clear that he simply could not understand why the goal was allowed to stand. 😳
And then came the bombshell…
Pro Ref later admitted that VAR had made an “error of judgment” and should have recommended an on-field review because Fernández’s positioning and movement could have influenced the play. The refereeing body also contacted Manchester United over the incident. 🚨
That admission has only intensified the anger around Old Trafford.
United had also been given a major opportunity after Phil Foden was sent off early in the match, leaving City with 10 men for the majority of the game. Yet the Reds couldn’t find a way through, while Haaland punished them at the other end. 😱🔵
Carrick now has to put the controversy behind him and focus on getting United back to winning ways, but the VAR decision is unlikely to disappear from the headlines anytime soon.
United lost the derby. VAR admitted an error. Carrick is furious. And the debate over Haaland’s goal is only getting bigger. 🔥🔴
